At the small to medium urban scale, Depthmap can be used to derive an ‘axial map’ of a layout. That is, derive a reduced straight-line network of the open space in an environment. The axial map has been the staple of space syntax research for many years, but the mathematical derivation of it is novel.

Space Syntax offers internships in our London studio to students who need to complete such a placement as part of their university course or degree. Interns follow a programme of project-based training in Space Syntax theory and technology.
